about phippsy
As a teenager he started an apprenticeship as a chef where he turned his knowledge of fish into a trade, working his way through 4 years at the prestigious Eliza's restaurant in Double Bay. He was also one of the first to graduate from the Ryde Catering College, where many fine chefs have studied. Other culinary appointments include, Buffet Chef at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadroom, A'la carte chef at the Shore Inn convention centre, Oskars on the beach at Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise, Production Chef at Jupiters Casino and Seafood Buffet Chef at Seaworld Nara Resort. This career was very helpful and paid for his fishing and surfing addiction with many wild and fruitful trips up and down the coast. Phippsy also played Rugby League and Australian Rules and was a deft touch with the cricket bat. "But don't ask him about his bowling."
He started his television career in 1995 on a show called Coastwatch and 2 and a half years later he joined the nine network where he reports on fishing, surfing and boating for National Nine News and the Gold Coast News. He writes for various publications like the Courier Mail and Modern Boating and is the Host Angler Chef of Channel Nines fishing show Hooked on Water. Phippsy still surfs regularly even competing in the odd longboard event and fishes both saltwater and freshwater all the time. His second book More Fish and Phipps and other tantalizing treats. Phippsy lives in Noosa with his wife Carine and two children Cheyne and Natasha and they all love fishing and surfing as well. The books are all about getting the very best from your seafood and a celebration of the many good things in life. |
